Cityscape and Skyline Stock Graphics
by Francisco on March 18, 2008
When I first realize that I will need an illustrated cityscape or skyline for a project, they are the types of images that I figure I can easily construct on my own. “Its just a matter of several boxes with random heights,” I tell myself, “No need to incur an added stock expense.” Soon though I realize that the “simple” skyline I am constructing has become a huge undertaking, even though it’s only a background image in a Flash piece for added depth. It thwarts my every effort to save time, by looking severely flat, and won’t look even passable unless I devote a whole project’s worth of time to it. This is incredibly frustrating and you might have similar experiences, maybe not with skylines or cityscapes but some group element that is supposed to be random, yet not abstract.
I had a similar project to the one I described above early in my career, and I think if I had used a fleshed-out stock vector graphic, if for nothing more than a palette for buildings, it would have saved me an immense amount of time. I picked the images below, keeping my city-creation horror story in mind. This collection’s primary focus is on stock illustrations that have enough depth to easily suggest a fair sized metropolis, as well as compositions that feel like an authentic cities, and at the same time maintain a finished quality. There are also images chosen from the stand point of implementing them as a layer blend in Photoshop for added texture to your design. So I hope you can save yourself some pain and find a graphic skyline or cityscape below that fits your project. Please let me know if this was helpful and feel free to add additional graphics on this topic below :).
